Site-specific artwork for Emaljehaven Plads in Copenhagen NV
NV-Cirklen is soon completed - inauguration on April 25, 2026 from 10-13.
As part of Områdefornyelse Bispebjerg Bakke’s revitalization of Emaljehaven Plads, we are creating the artwork NV-Cirklen – a site-specific social sculpture that invites both lingering and exploration. The work consists of six circles of tiles in varying shades and heights, which, like ripples in water, are integrated into Emaljehaven Plads’ new green surroundings.
The inspiration for the work is drawn from both Nordvest’s proud craft tradition and characteristic brick architecture, as well as the artists’ exploration of the connections that bind us across continents, cultures, and generations. We have sought to work as locally anchored as possible and have therefore selected motifs for the custom bricks in collaboration with the neighborhood’s residents.
We have collaborated with Hagemeister Brickworks and Steffensten to process the bricks during production. Motifs from Nordvest have been drawn directly into the wet bricks, which were then fired and will, over the coming months, be integrated into the paving at Emaljehaven Plads.
The permanent artwork is the result of the Bispebjerg Bakke Art Strategy, developed by the Områdefornyelse working group Kunstpatruljen with curatorial input from Umage and Hesselholdt & Mejlvang.
