Couples therapy coming up at SMK
Exhibition period: 29 August 2026 - 24 January 2027
What does it mean to create together? To let ideas take shape collectively, and to allow thoughts and expressions to emerge through dialogue.
In this autumn’s major exhibition, four Danish artist duos – Bank & Rau, Hesselholdt & Mejlvang, J&K / Janne Schäfer and Kristine Agergaard og Randi & Katrine – delve into the art of collaboration and the challenges that come with shared creation. Through sculptures, installations, performances and parades, they turn a loving yet critical gaze on contemporary forms of community. They explore the dynamics and symbols that shape these communities and ask what we hope they might become in the future.
With sensuous, surprising and participatory works, the artists address the institutional frameworks that organise our lives today – touching on birth and death, and the everyday practices that sustain us.
The exhibition will unfold as a staged, immersive installation that cuts into the museum like a wedge: entering from the public space, passing through the museum’s entrance hall and the east-facing gallery, and extending into the Sculpture Street and the museum’s hidden corners. It will bring together works from the duos’ early years up to the present day, alongside new pieces created specifically for the exhibition.
Look forward to an exhibition that, with both humour and critique, explores what it means to be connected – in a time that calls for collective action.
