Points of Unity, 2018
Watercolor paintings transformed to billboards. Variable dimensions.
App. 100 billboards in public space of Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih and Lviv, Ukraine.
Step 1: Starting January 5, 2018, Points of Unity will be displayed on more than 50 billboards in central Kyiv.
The visuals are simple—hand-painted watercolor backgrounds transitioning from blue at the top to green in the middle, ending in yellow at the bottom. The imagery subtly echoes the Ukrainian flag but in an abstract form, with a symbolic band of green emerging where blue and yellow meet—representing hope and unity.
Step 2: Beginning February 10, the backgrounds are joined by the slogans: “Let’s look for points of unity,” “Be a beautiful force together,” and “THIS MOMENT is the Beginning.”
These messages are calls to action, though not in a direct way; rather, they invite the viewer into an imaginative space. The slogans speak of human connection, interaction, and the pursuit of a better way to navigate a complex world. They encourage a collective effort to build a brighter future.
Step 3: By March 10, the project expands to the Ukrainian cities of Kryvyi Rih and Lviv.
Points of Unity is produced by Hesselholdt & Mejlvang and IZOLYATSIA Platform for Cultural Initiatives in collaboration with BigMedia, Ukraine’s largest outdoor advertising operator.
The project is generously supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.
