Commission for the new west wing at Falkonergården High School, Copenhagen, Denmark.

This MOMENT unfolds across three floors of the west wing at Falkonergården High School in Copenhagen. The project emphasizes an organic connection between architecture and art, integrating the artworks as a natural and inherent part of the school. The pieces engage with their surroundings by primarily using wood and brass—materials characteristic of both the old and new buildings.
The circle, a recurring motif throughout the school—from the new multi-hall to the lamps and columns—plays a central role in the artworks as both a form and a symbol. It serves as a unifying element, connecting the different parts of the commission while linking them to the broader identity of Falkonergården.
Conceptually, the artworks explore the school’s commitment to fostering an inclusive youth culture. Inclusion is interpreted broadly, encompassing cultural diversity, social belonging, and the creation of strong communities. These themes take shape in a series of brass-cut statements displayed on the walls of the students’ communal spaces.
The theme of inclusion is further embodied in a series of six flags, painted in a gradient of six skin tones, mounted on the central stairwell wall.Suspended from the ceiling above the stairs is a brass cast of a model of the Santa Maria—the largest of the ships used by Christopher Columbus to reach the Americas. As an object of both imagination and controversy, it evokes the history of colonial conquest, adding complexity to the artwork’s overarching narrative of inclusion. It challenges the viewer, suggesting that an awareness of history is essential to understanding the need for community today. At the same time, the ship can also symbolize the students’ own journeys—setting sail toward new horizons after graduation.Realized with generous support from Frederiksberg Fonden and the Danish Arts Foundation.
